Jelani Williams, a West Orange High School senior, has received a full athletic scholarship to attend St. John’s University to be part of their soccer team. St. John’s University is part of the Big East Conference. He is the seventh West Orange High School soccer player in the last 10 years to receive a Division 1 athletic scholarship. He signed his Letter of Intent committing him to the university on Feb. 1 at West Orange High School.
Williams, a forward for the WOHS boys' varsity soccer team, was named an All-State Player.
“Jelani is an incredible player," WOHS head boys' soccer coach Doug Nevins said. "He will go down as one of the most talented players in our high school history. If he works hard, he will have a great college career."
Nevins himself played for Villanova University and was named All Big East Player of the Year in 1995, as well as State Coach of the Year in 2006.
