West Orange High School senior football players Terrence Russel and Lance Smith recently signed national letters of intent in accepting athletic scholarships to continue their football careers.
Russel, a receiver/defensive back, signed with the State University of New York at Albany, a Division 1 Football Championship Subdivision school, while Smith, a running back, signed with Northern Michigan, which is Division 2.
WOHS head coach John Jacob was thrilled for both players.
“The most rewarding aspect of this process was witnessing the personal growth of both of these young men during the course of their careers here at West Orange High School,” Jacob said. “While I contend that they are very talented football players, I am prouder to say great young men. They have represented the town of West Orange in exemplary fashion and will do the same for the respective schools they will attend. They are well rounded, caring individuals that will work hard to make a difference wherever their journey takes them.
“While we are excited for what lies ahead in the next chapter of their lives, we also realize how sorely they will be missed by our fans, our coaching staff and their teammates.”
Russel and Smith are the eighth and ninth West Orange student-athletes to earn football scholarships to college since 2003.
