By Daniel Listwa, Correspondent “The following clues describe famous pigs,” the host of the quiz show The Challenge, Jared Cotter, announced as the lightning round began.
A minute appeared on the clock. With the seconds ticking away, questions were rapidly fired at the Solomon Schechter Day School team: “His famous line was that’s all folk.... This toy pig appears in Toy Story.... This Muppet pursued Kermit....” Clue, after clue, team captain Cory Nagelberg, a senior at Schechter Day School of Essex and Union, quickly shot back with the answers: Porky, Ham, Ms. Piggy. Victory against competing high school, Warren Hills Regional, was assured as the Schechter team continued to rake in the points.
With a final score of 320 to 170, the team, on Nov. 11, won the first round of the Jeopardy-style academic game show, designed to test high school students in a wide variety of subjects, ranging from topics such as U.S. Foreign Policy to French Literature.
The show, which has been running for 13 years, features teams from high schools, selected from the tri-state area, which compete with other schools in the region, hoping to win $2,500 dollars for their school and proceed to the Challenge Championship.WEST ORANGE CHRONICLE
