SHP track team places second at the North Jersey Non-Public A

The Seton Hall Prep track and field team finished second in the North Jersey Non-Public A Championships last Friday and Saturday May 25-26 in Basking Ridge.

The Pirates had 86 points based on the top-six finishes in each event.

Michael Maduabum won the high jump. Joseph Cuntrera and Dominic D’Antonio finished 1-2 in the pole vault.

The top-six finishers in each event qualified for the Non-Public A state Championships tomorrow and Saturday in Old Bridge.

SHP lacrosse team falls in state tournament semifinals

The fourth-seeded Seton Hall Prep lacrosse team had a good run in the Non-Public A state tournament, losing to top-seeded Don Bosco Prep, 14-12, in the semifinals last Saturday May 25 in Ramsey.

Tim Mulrenan had three goals and one assist; Paul Werner had three goals; Joe Gillis and Ethan Bliss each had two goals and one assist; and Ryan Giordano and Chris Donovan each had one goal for the Pirates, who fell to 12-6. George Peck made nine saves for SHP.

The West Orange High School boys' and girls' track and field teams each finished second in their respective team standings at the North Jersey Section 1, Group 4 Championships last Friday and Saturday May 25-26 in Randolph.

SHP baseball team to host BC in sectional tournament

The top-seeded Seton Hall Prep varsity baseball team will host ninth-seeded Bergen Catholic in the quarterfinals of the North Jersey Non-Public A tournament on Tuesday May 29.
The Pirates, who are 22-3, won the Super Essex Conference-American Divisoin championship for the third straight season with a 14-2 divisional record. They completed their season in the division with a 4-2 loss at Nutley on Thursday May 24.

The West Orange High School and Seton Hall Prep track and field teams enjoyed impressive performances at the Essex County Championships last Friday and Saturday May 18-19 at Woodman Field in Montclair.

The West Orange United Soccer Club teams gave competitive showings for the week-ending May 20:

Barcelona U7 boys lost to Nutley, 4-2. Joaquin Neihenke and Brian Babovic scored the goals. SHP baseball team earns No. 1 seed in North Non-Public A tournament

The Seton Hall Prep varsity baseball team received the No. 1 seed in the North Jersey Non-Public A tournament.

The Pirates will host a quarterfinal game on May 29 against the first-round winner between No. 9 seed Bergen Catholic and No. 8 seed Union Catholic. The quarterfinal winner will face the winner between No. 5 seed Pingry and No. 4 seed Delbarton in the semifinals on June 1 at the higher-seeded team. The final is June 5 at Belleville High School.

Reds, Giants, Mets win in MTL Baseball play

The Reds, Giants and Mets won in West Orange Mountain Top League Baseball games for the week of May 14 that was shortened by weather and field conditions.

Reds defeated Dodgers, 11- 5: The Reds received strong pitching from Garrett Fitschen and Eitan Kaynan. Jonah Braverman hit a monster grand slam to lead the offense.  Mike DePalma starred at catcher, throwing out a runner at second base.  For the Dodgers, Erick Castro hit a two-run home run.
