WOHS girls' hoop team has successful year

After losing five players from last year’s group, which was one-win shy of 20, head coach Kim Wilson knew her West Orange High School girls’ varsity basketball team would certainly go through its shares of struggles this season.
But with a final record of 13-12 and a Super Essex Conference record of 9-5, which was good enough for second place, and with several injuries to the players that did return, Wilson couldn’t have asked for any better

SHP hoops end great season

Despite losing in the State sectional tournament final last week, the Seton Hall Prep varsity basketball team had a season to remember.
The top-seeded Pirates lost to third-seeded St. Peter’s Prep of Jersey City, 64-54, in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association North Jersey Non-Public A tournament championship on March 11 at the Louis Brown Athletic Center in Piscataway, ending the season with a stellar 26-3 record. WOHS boys' hoops to hold 'Final Four' Fund-raiser dinner

The West Orange High School boys’ varsity basketball team recently completed an impressive season.
Every summer the Mountaineers play their “second season.”
The team spends many hot summer nights battling some of the state’s top teams in often quite expensive summer leagues.
This annual ritual is a key component in preparing for the next scholastic season.

WOHS heavyweight wrestler Betancor finishes fourth at State tourney

Head coach Stephan Zichella couldn’t have been any more proud of the two West Orange High School varsity wrestlers who represented the Mountaineers March 5-7 in Atlantic City for the State championships.

Andre Callender now training athletes at Pyramid Fitness In West Orange. Andre graduated from Seton Hall Prep in 2003. He earned SuperPrep All-America honors as a senior running back at Seton Hall Prep and named to Tom Lemming's All-East team in 2002. He was a two-time All-State and three-time All-County selection, gained All-Iron Hills Conference accolades in 2000, 2001 and 2002 and earned a spot on the New Jersey Coaches Association's Super 100. He was selected to the 2002 Tri-State Heisman Team and holds the Seton Hall Prep record for career rushing yards with 4,370; ran for a single-season record 1,772 yards as a junior and rushed for 1,450 yards as a senior. He scored six touchdowns in one game - against Livingston - in 2001. Andre also earned All-State honors in track; was one of the nation's top high school hurdlers (110m high hurdles). He went on to have an outstanding football career as a running back at Boston College. He Earned All-ACC second-team honors and set a BC single-season receptions record with 76 grabs (for 720 yards) and had a team-high 13 touchdowns on the year (9 rushing, 4 receiving). Upon graduation, he finished fifth on the BC all-time rushing list with 2,971 yards.

Andre recieved his Personal Trainer Certification from the International Fitness Association. At the NFL Combine on Tue, 25 Mar 2008, He ran 10 yards in 1.59 seconds, 20 yards in 2.58 seconds and the 40-yard dash in 4.40 seconds. He ran the short shuttle in 4.34 seconds, the long shuttle in 11.58 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.86 seconds. He measured a 30 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot-3 broad jump and completed 16 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press. Due to injuries, Andre’s career was cut short. He played 1 year as Free Agent in Canadian Football League. Andre has arranged a special discount for any Seton Hall Athete thats trains at Pyramid Fitness.
