Marie M. Lee
Marie M. “Mary” Lee, 87, of West Orange, formerly of Orange, died
Feb. 22 at home. She was a receptionist at The Jewish Community
Center, Livingston, for 25 years, retiring 15 years ago. Mrs. Lee
was predeceased by her husband, Robert E., and son, Robert. She is
survived by her children, Connie and Pat; four siblings, Sam and
Louis Romano, Anne Pescatore, and Grace Lee; one grandson, and
several nieces and nephews.
Annette Russo
Annette Russo, 55, of Newark, formerly of Irvington, died Feb. 22
at home. Born in Newark, she graduated from Irvington High School
and was employed by the Department of Environmental Protection in
West Orange for 18 years. Ms. Russo is survived by her parents,
Daniel and Mary Russo; two brothers, Daniel Jr., and Paul; two
nephews, and several other relatives.
Irving E. Goodman
James P. “Sonny” Congero Jr. of Brick, formerly of Orange and West
Orange, died Feb. 23 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick. Mr. Congero
was born and raised in Orange and lived in West Orange for 25 years
before moving to the Brick area 25 years ago. He worked as a
corrections officer for Essex County in Caldwell for 23 years,
retiring in 1986. He and his wife owned and operated Scutch’s
Restaurant in West Orange and the Chadwick Fishery in Normandy
Beach. Mr. Congero is survived by his wife of 58 years, Antonetta;
three sons, James P. III, Richard, and Kenneth; a sister, Sylvia
Mellini, and six grandchildren.
Hyman Max Hait
Hyman Max “Hy” Hait, 85, of Wellington, Fla., formerly of West
Orange, died Feb. 26. Mr. Hait was born in Newark and, while in
high school, won the New Jersey State singles tennis championship.
He graduated from Upsala College in East Orange. and served in the
Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He worked at M&M
Bag and Suitcase Company, Jersey City, taking over and serving as
its president until his retirement in 1980. A year later, he
entered the securities industry where he worked until the age of
83. He was an officer of the Luggage and Leather Manufacturing
Association of America. Mr. Hait was predeceased by his first wife,
Barbara Ann Wolk. He is survived by his wife, Madeline Frost Hait;
a son, William Hait; two step-children, Steven Adler and Susan
Frost,
